Who We Are

Etinpower is a minigrid developer focused on providing access to clean and reliable energy to unserved and underserved communities and creating industrialised hubs in West Africa, commencing with Edo State.

Our name is distinct and says what we are. "Etin", means 'power' in the Edo language. EtinPower is therefore "Power Squared" or concentrated energy, hopefully reflecting our desire to totally impact and uplift our communities, harnessing the power of modern energy to propel them towards a brighter and more sustainable future.

We provide electricity to vulnerable off-grid communities, while also providing opportunities for economic growth by facilitating productive use of energy through the use of appliances that will increase income, productivity, and standard of living of our customers and our communities.

Evbuwa

Evbuwa

Evbuwa is one of our host communities located on the old Benin-Abraka road, in Orhionmwon LGA, about an hour drive from the centre of Benin City. Our minigrid has an installed solar generation capacity of 24.57kWp, and batteries are 71.68kWh. We currently have 155 connections in Evbuwa. It has a population of about 2500 people. The main economic activities are farming and petty trading. Like Iguemokhua, the major crops are cassava, yam, plantain and the local melon seed. There is a community borehole that is centrally managed for the benefit of all. The cassava mills produce staples like garri and fufu, which are sold on market days occurring every four days. There is a functional primary school right next to the land given to us by the community as our office. Evbuwa is where the industrialised hub that will service the surrounding communities is to be located.

Iguemokhua

Iguemokhua

Iguemokhua is located about 7km after Evbuwa, in Orhionmwon LGA, also off the old Benin- Abraka road. Our minigrid facility has an installed solar generation capacity of 16.38kWp, and a battery capacity of 19.2 kWh. We currently have 77 connections. This community was chosen for our pilot because it is a potential ecotourism village, as it is located near a pristine segment of the Jamieson River, which is of local historical interest as the river was crossed by an Oba of Benin during his exile. It has a population of about 1000 people, and about 60 houses, and has never been electrified before. The local economy revolves around agriculture and hunting, with the cultivation of crops such as cassava, yams, plantains, and the local melon seed. There are a few shops, three boreholes, and active cassava mills. Market days are held every four days, and their fresh produce is bought by traders from Benin. It has a functioning primary school and a modern hospital building, which has never been utilized.

Ajakurama

Ajakurama

Our third community is Ajakurama. It is a small town in Ovia South West LGA, in the riverine Niger Delta. Our minigrid facility in this community has an installed solar generation capacity of 46.8 kwp, and a battery storage capacity of 61.44kwh. We currently have 123 connections, which is 10% of its viable connections but are expanding to cover the remaining 90%. It is the traditional headquarters of the Egbema kingdom, one of the nine clans of the Ijaw people, who are primarily reside in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa and Ondo states of Nigeria. Ajakurama is situated on the eastern bank of the Benin River, marking the boundary with Delta State to the west, and is surrounded by the Okomu National Park on land. It has over 1274 houses and 5000 inhabitants. It has a health centre, churches, a couple of motels, public and private primary and secondary schools, beer parlors, fast food outlets and 3 telecommunication towers. A number of houses have shops attached to them. Located in the community is a functional pure water factory, which we see as our anchor business. There are therefore many commercial activities.

Ologbo N’ugu

Ologbo N’ugu

Ologbo N’Ugu is a border community off the Benin-Abraka interstate in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. The community is primarily populated by the Bini people, whose major economic activity is farming of staple crops such as cassava, plantains, and corn due to the abundance of arable land. Additionally, there are welders and small-scale traders within the community, all of whom were excited at the prospect of reliable and clean energy within Ologbo N’Ugu. Prior to our intervention, this community was underserved by the regional distribution company (Benin Distribution Company). As a result, the residents were dependent on alternative power, such as petrol-powered generators, to supply both their homes with intermittent energy and power their agro-processing equipment. Currently, there are 3 diesel-powered cassava processing plants within the community, and almost half the households possess mobile cassava mills with petrol engines. Our current intervention, commissioned on the 29th of May 2025 and funded by Seplat Energy Plc. as part of their Corporate Social Initiative, although interconnected to the national grid, provides a daily average of solar electricity supply of 9 hours to 105 active connections with a generation capacity of 18.4kWp and storage capacity of 30kWh. With the infusion of productive use support to the community residents, we project an increase in economic activity and an increase in energy consumption

Etinpower Empowers Iguemokhua and Evbuwa Communities for Economic Growth

In a remarkable initiative led by Etinpower, the communities of Iguemokhua and Evbuwa are experiencing a significant boost in economic growth. With a focus on community empowerment, Etinpower has taken proactive steps to enhance the livelihoods and prosperity of the residents. Through their unwavering dedication and innovative approach, Etinpower has brought hope and economic opportunities to the doorsteps of the communities. Their initiative aims to uplift the residents by providing them with resources and support to increase their incomes and improve their quality of life. One such initiative includes the distribution of Noiler chickens, a high-productivity breed known for its resilience. These chickens are being made available to the women of the community, enabling them to generate income and become more self-reliant. The introduction of Noiler chickens is seen as a positive step towards economic growth and development within the communities. As a part of this initiative, Mrs. Claire Ighodaro CBE, gladly agreed to sponsor the gift of chickens to the residents. Her generous contribution of 100 chickens has augmented the numbers for those who have already purchased them, further expanding the economic opportunities for the community members. In an interview, one grateful community member, Mr. John Ogieva, remarked, "Mrs. Ighodaro's gift of Noiler chickens is a real blessing for us! The gift of Noiler chickens from Mrs. Claire Ighodaro CBE is making a big difference in our lives. It's not just about money, but also about becoming more independent in our community.” Claire Ighodaro CBE is a British-born Nigerian chartered management accountant. She was the first female president of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and previously the financial director of BT Broadband. She is a trustee of the British Council and an independent board member of the UK Trade & Investment Executive Board. She is a board member and Audit Committee Chair of Lloyd’s of London and a non-executive director and Governance Committee Chair of Merrill Lynch. In 2008, she was awarded with a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to business. The impact of Etinpower's initiative has been met with heartfelt appreciation from the residents, who recognize the positive changes it brings to their lives. The partnership between Etinpower and the communities has laid the foundation for sustainable economic growth, fostering a sense of hope and enthusiasm among the residents. Iguemokhua is a vibrant community known for it's rich cultural heritage and close-knit community bonds. It is situated within the Orhionmwon Local Government Area and is home to a diverse population. The residents of Iguemokhua engage in various economic activities, including agriculture, trading, and small-scale businesses. Evbuwa is another community situated within the Orhionmwon Local Government Area. It is known for its peaceful environment and scenic beauty. The community is primarily agrarian, with agriculture serving as the primary source of livelihood for the residents. The transformative potential of Etinpower's initiative goes beyond economic benefits. By empowering the communities, they inspire residents to dream big and work towards a better future. The collaborative efforts of Etinpower, Mrs. Claire Ighodaro CBE, and the community members exemplify the power of collective action and its ability to create positive change. As the Iguemokhua and Evbuwa communities continue to experience the positive impact of Etinpower's initiative, it serves as an inspiration for others to follow suit. Together, we can create a wave of change, driving prosperity and hope to every corner of our beloved nation.

"The Power of Light: How Access to Clean Energy Transforms Lives in Evbuwa Community"

In the heart of Evbuwa Community, a radiant transformation has taken place, one that can only be described as awe-inspiring. This is the story of how the power of Clean Energy, brought by EtinPower, has ignited the lives of its residents. Jonathan Osarobo Egharevba, a proud member of this vibrant community, reflects on their remarkable journey from darkness to light. As the "fourth in command" of Evbuwa, his perspective is deeply rooted in the community's shared experience. He reminisces, "Before this light came, we were just in darkness. Surprisingly, when the light came, we were never expecting such a thing like that. Even in the future, we thought such a gesture would not come from anywhere." The arrival of Clean Energy had a profound impact on Jonathan's family. He continues, "Before you came, my children and my wife, they were managing this store. We spent a lot of money buying fuel, and every few days, our generator would break down. The cycle of spending on fuel and expensive repairs was never-ending. Even my children would buy new generators, and after just a few months, the same experience would repeat itself. But since light came, we are enjoying your services." The ripple effect of this newfound light has been monumental. Jonathan emphasizes, "Before the light came, everyone had been managing. But today, it has brought a great development to the community. People from Benin are coming to the community to acquire land for building and other purposes. Even companies are coming too, all because of EtinPower. We enjoy your services. God will continue to bless you." In the neighboring household, Mr. Sunday Igbinidun adds his voice to the chorus of transformation. He recalls the years of darkness that engulfed the community, saying, "For years, we had not experienced light. We couldn't even watch the Governor's speech or keep up with the state of the country because there was no light." With EtinPower's arrival, Sunday's life, like many others, has taken a brighter turn. "As EtinPower has come to give us light, we can now buy a DVD, operate it, and see the government and the state of the country today," he says. "Through the light we are able to do POS business. With the subsidy removal, I would not have been able to afford fuel to power my generator." He goes on to emphasize the financial relief access to clean energy has brought: "Before, I would buy fuel for 10,000 naira, and sometimes it wouldn't last for two days. Now, I recharge 2,000 naira worth of energy credit, and it lasts me 10 days in managing my business." The ripple effects of this newfound light are unmistakable, as Sunday points out, "With the light now, everybody is coming to buy land. EtinPower truly empowers us. The light empowers us to do business without which I would not be able to train my children through school if I was spending as much as 10,000 on fuel for my generator." In Evbuwa, EtinPower has not only brought light to homes but also ignited hope, opportunity, and community development. As the once darkened nights give way to a brighter future, the residents of this remarkable community stand testament to the transformative power of clean energy. EtinPower's commitment to providing clean and accessible energy to un-electrified communities continues to change lives, one household at a time. It's a testament to the incredible power of clean energy and the boundless possibilities it brings to those who have lived in darkness for far too long.
